Thorium Mobile supports three different reading modes, respectively for:
- EPUB (also known as reflowable EPUB)
- and Fixed Layout EPUB (also known as FXL EPUB)
Reading progression
Thorium Mobile defaults to a paginated reading mode, for all formats.
In this mode, you can progress forward and backward in the publication by:
- Tapping on the left/right of the screen
- Or swiping to the left/right
If you connect a trackpad, mouse or keyboard on an iPad, or if you install this app on macOS, you can also use alternate options such as:
- Forward and backward buttons, that will show up when you hover on either side of the window
- Or keyboard shortcuts, such as arrows or the space bar
With PDF files, Thorium Mobile can also support scrolling as an option. When scrolling in a PDF:
- Taps are disabled
- Scrolling up or down becomes available using swipes or your trackpad/mouse
Progression bar
While reading, Thorium Mobile automatically hides all other actions that could get in the way.
To view the progression bar:
- Tap at the center of the screen with your finger
- Or hover to the bottom of the screen if you're using a trackpad/mouse
The progression bar will show you how far you currently are in your publication.
If you'd like jump somewhere in the publication, you can either:
- Scrub it with your finger
- Or hover it with your trackpade/mouse, then click
While scrubbing or hovering the progression bar, it will automatically show the position that you will jump to and the chapter's name.
The progression bar can also display back and forward actions, that will be contextually displayed when you jump forward/backward in the progression.
This feature will only be displayed after using one of the following actions:
- Tapping or clicking on a link
- Selecting a Search result
- Using the Go to position feature
- Or jumping to a Bookmark
Actions
In addition to the progression bar, the reading view also provides a number of contextual actions.
To display these actions:
- Tap on the middle of the screen
- Or hover to the top with a trackpad/mouse
In the upper left corner, a back action will bring you back to the screen where you opened the publication.
In the upper right corner, you'll see up to three actions and a menu with the following actions:
- Display Settings
- Add/remove a bookmark
- Table of Contents
- Search
- Listen (only available on EPUB files)
- Go to Position
- List of Bookmarks
- Reading Options
Read it your way
To customize your reading experience, you can either:
- Customize how the publication is displayed using Display Settings
- Or tweak the reading experience with Reading Options
Your display settings are saved per publication, but Thorium Mobile will use your latest settings the first time that you open a publication.
Reading options are global across all formats and publications.
